Sector information Hauts-de-France

This page shows information about the Automotive, Life sciences & health and Foodtech sectors in Hauts-de France region.
Automotive

Hauts-de-France is an important region for automotive.

  • The region produces the most cars in all of France. About 30,000 people work in the automotive industry in the region. This regional sector exports €5.4 billion each year and imports €7.3 billion. With 3 component manufacturers (Renault, Stellantis and Toyota) and 7 production locations, the region is the center of the automotive industry.
  • The region invests heavily in innovations, sustainability and high-tech materials and systems. In the 'Battery Valley', for example, batteries for electric vehicles will be developed, tested and produced in the coming years. 3 mega factories are planned for batteries.
  • The region has a rich ecosystem of research and pilot centers for sustainable mobility (zero emissions) and smart vehicles.

Life Sciences & Health

Hauts-de-France ranks number 3 as a health region in France and is one of the top 3 regions that sets the French health industry in motion.

  • About 8% of the health companies in the region are active in e-health: a fast-growing area where healthcare and digital technology come together.
  • About half of the healthcare companies in Hauts-de-France concentrate on the production of medical devices, equipment and consumables, the processing of materials and the synthesis of new products.
  • Innovation is high on the agenda in Northern France. For example, a robot produces medicines in the university hospital of Lille. The strength of the Hauts-de-France region is mainly medtech. That is why the life sciences & health program focuses on this theme.
Foodtech

The Hauts-de-France region is a leader in the food processing industry.

  • Are you curious about the innovation and market opportunities in Northern France?
  • And would you like to get in touch with possible French partners in this sector?
Then take part in this trade mission. Hauts-de-France is one of the most important regions of France for food production, processing and distribution.

  • There are a number of important innovation clusters from the food processing industry in the region.
  • The region has very fertile soil that allows for a vigorous and varied agriculture. There is therefore a very wide range.
  • The region is very strong in the processing of fruit and vegetables and in the production of beverages, sugars, starch products, bakery products and proteins.
  • Due to its good location, there are a number of important food distribution centers in the region.
  • Due to its good reputation in agriculture, Hauts-de-France is sometimes popularly referred to as 'the attic of France'. The region is located at the top of France and produces all kinds of food. This can be compared to the past: in farms, food was also stored at the top.
